Des at GreatScat points out this well-written Crooks and Liars note re the media's dependence on right-wing media watchdogs to the exclusion of left-wing ones.

As you surely know, this is part of how the myth of liberal media is propagated.

It's a bit like if the Cleveland Indians bribed the umps, then only hired sportscasters who complained about the few calls that went the other teams' way.  Somebody watching wouldn't know that both the calls and the criticism were slanted utterly before the game even started, unless they had common sense and/or could think for themselves.
